History of Dharmapuri

  • Dharmapuri district has the honor of being the birthplace of Adhiyamaan Neduman Anji, the great warrior and powerful king.
  • The region of Tagadur ruled by Adiyaman, one of the Kadaiyelu vallalgal, is now known as Dharmapuri.
  • There are many histories of Athiyaan's Bravery. But everyone knows him for an important act. It is a very rare type of wild gooseberry that does not cause death. When Adiyaman got the fruit, he did not eat it and gave it to avvaiyar Tamil female poet, thinking that she should create more idols in Tamil and keep Tamil alive so that she would not die.
  • Hoysalas, Pandyas, Vijayanagar Kings, Sultans, Nayak rulers, and British were the emperors who ruled Dharmapuri.

Theerthamalai
Theertha Malai, a famous Shiva temple in Dharmapuri district, is about 17 km from Harur. The founder of this hilltop temple is also named Theertha Giriswarar. The Chola kings have donated a lot to this ancient and beautiful temple. Tamil Nadu Tourism Department has established accommodation facilities here. The Maha Shivratri Utsavam is being held here in a very special way.

Adhiyamaan Kottai
At a distance of 7 km from Dharmapuri city, the ruined Athiyaman Fort stands as historical testimony.

Hogenakkal
Hogenakkal Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls among tourists. Surrounded by mountains, the beautiful waterfall and its beauty are sure to attrack everyone. Hogenakkal is 47 kilometers away from Dharmapuri town. Coracle Boat Ride – 'Parisal' is very famous in Hogenakkal.
