Jayankondam
10 kilometers from Gangaikonda Cholapuram, the earlier name of Jayankondam was Nellimana Village. It got its name because the main tree of the Shiva temple here is a Nelly tree (Gooseberry tree). Before shifting the capital to Gangaikonda Cholapuram, Rajendra Chola changed the town's name to Jayankondam. It is a Chola period art city.

Thirumanur
Thirumanur is 22 km from Ariyalur. It is said that there is a myth that Lord Nataraja danced at this place with a deer and that is why this place is said to have got its name. It is said that King Rajaraja Chola, on his way from Perambalur to Tanjore, left a 20-foot tall statue of Nataraja here at Thirumanur.

Gangaikonda Cholapuram
King Rajendra Cholan, son of King Rajaraja Cholan, built a temple of Brihadeeswarar at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in the form of a large temple in Tanjore to commemorate his conquest of the north. Read More....

Vajrathambanathar Temple Thirumazhapadi
The famous Vajrasthampanatha temple is located in Thirumalappadi in Ariyalur District. This Shiva Temple has located 13 Km from Thiruvaiyaru. There are bus facilities to reach here from Ariyalur as well. The town was named Talavanam and later became Thirumazhapadi. A legend is also told about this place. History has it that the name changed to Thirumalappadi because lord Shiva danced (Maluvendhi) in this place for Markandeyar.

Kaliyuga Varadaraja Perumal Temple
Kallankurichi village is 5 km from Ariyalur. The Kaliyuga Varadaraja Perumal Temple here is a must-see place in this district. There is no Perumal idol in the moolasthanam of this 500-year-old temple. The moolasthanam has only the figure of an anjaneyar holding a 12 feet high pole. It is surprising that the Pooja Punaskaarams are being performed here con sidering this as the main god.

Elakurichi Adaikala Madha Shrine
There cannot be anyone who does not know about Veeramamunivar. He is the author of Thembavani. In 1711, he built a temple of Adaikala Madha at Elakurichi. The statue of Madha was brought from London. In the year 2001, this Madha temple was declared a tourist destination by the Tamil Nadu government. It is known from the inscriptions that the Chola king gave a land grant to this temple. Elakurichi is 65 km from Perambalur. You can reach here from Trichy also.
