  • Passing the Kamarajar Memorial and heading north, you will find the imposing Valluvar Kottam at the Nungambakkam entrance.
  • Valluvar Kottam was built by Mr. M. Karunanidhi, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the period from 1975 to 1976.
  • It used to be the dumping ground of the entire city. But later, the land was reclaimed and used to build Valluvar Kottam.
  • 106 feet tall beautiful stone chariot with a 7 feet high statue of Thiruvalluvar is installed here.
  • 1330 Thirukkurals are placed on the pillars in Kural Mani Maadams, one of the special in Valluvar Kottam.
  • The absence of pillars in the huge arena which was built in front of the chariot is remarkable.
  • Valluvar Kottam is one of the special features of Chennai, which has been carefully developed in the middle of a beautiful park.
  • The lion at the main entrance of the Kottam is decorated with very attractive designs.
  • Valluvar Kottam is visited by a large number of visitors every year from all over the world.
