- Initially, this place was named Madraspatnam during Venkatapathy Nayak Period. After that, Chennai was called Chennapatnam; this name was derived from Venkatapathy Father's Name Chennapa Nayak.
- In the 17th century, Big Naval Base and Major Urban Centre were developed by the British. In the 20th century, Chennai had become an important administrative center of the Madras Presidency.
