About Chennai District and Its History

  • Chennai is the capital city of Tamilnadu. This district serves as the gateway of the culture of South India. Chennai is a young city with more than 300 years of history
  • Also, this district is well known as the capital of Tamil speaking state. Chennai has the nickname called "Detroit of India", due to the large number of Automobile Industries found here.
  • Chennai is well known for its Hardware Manufacturing Industries, Healthcare Industries, Second Largest Software Exporter, and Information Technology.
  • Initially, this place was named Madraspatnam during Venkatapathy Nayak Period. After that, Chennai was called Chennapatnam; this name was derived from Venkatapathy Father's Name Chennapa Nayak.
  • In the 17th century, Big Naval Base and Major Urban Centre were developed by the British. In the 20th century, Chennai had become an important administrative center of the Madras Presidency.
  • Chennai, which gave life to the British then, today India knows that it is unmatched by any other state in providing life to its Indian brothers.
